Virginia’s Windmill Point Lighthouse was established in 1834 at the northern shore area of the entrance to the Rappahannock River. John Filmore Hudgins served as the keeper here from 1899 to 1906. Charles E. Respess served here from 1907 until his death at the lighthouse on March 5, 1915. Charles Linwood Sadler served here as an assistant keeper from 1953 to 1954 while Floyd Earl Crew served here as the keeper from 1947 until 1954 when the lighthouse was decommissioned.
