St. Croix River Lighthouse on Dochet Island near Calais, Maine on the border with Canada was listed as the First Lighthouse in the First Lighthouse District of the United States of America. It was here that George Sanford Morrison spent his childhood years from 1945 to 1949 where his father was the lighthouse keeper. In 1976 the lighthouse was destroyed by an accidental fire.
