The United States Lighthouse Tender Walnut arrives in Detroit on August 17, 1939. On board the vessel for its voyage from California to the Great Lakes was Sewell A. Knapp, Assistant General Superintendent of the Moore Dry Dock Company who travelled with the ship during its trial run.
