Coast Guard keeper Forest Cheney on the outer catwalk at the top of Hafway Rock Lighthouse in 1953. Above his head was the diaphragm air horn which would blow constantly during the fog. It was powered by compressed air that was provided by two compressors below the tower. When it would fail, the men resorted to using the old fog bell. Back to the edition of: Jul/Aug 2014
