California’s Roe Island Lighthouse in its prime. Note that the house on the left of the lighthouse is a near duplicate of the actual lighthouse, minus the lantern room. During the 1944 explosion the bell tower was knocked off its foundation and pushed into the lighthouse. The lighthouse no longer stands. Photograph courtesy of the Nautical Research Center.
