Photo Caption:

The Great Lakes Lighthouse postage stamps, the Historic Lighthouses of America postage stamps, the Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse postage stamp, and the Sandy Hook Lighthouse postage stamp, as shown on these “First Day of Issue Commemorative Covers” are among the very few U.S. postage stamps that have had lighthouses on them. Most have only been issued to honor the lighthouses as historic structures. The Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse stamp was issued in 1970 to honor Maine’s Statehood and not the lighthouse.
