In the September-October 2013 edition of Lighthouse Digest, we brought you the story of the dismantling of the first order Fresnel lens at Pt. Conception Lighthouse located in Santa Barbara County, California. That article was entitled “The End of a New Beginning...” Now, we bring you the restoration and rebuilding of the lens at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum.
The reassembling process took three experts, a month and a half to finish. The following photos will give you a snapshot of the step-by-step process that it took to meticulously complete the 18-foot, 6000-pound glass masterpiece.
In a future edition of Lighthouse Digest, the opening night gala for the lens exhibit.
For more information on the lens, you may call the museum at (805) 962-8404, or go to: www.sbmm.org.
All photos by Bill Edwards taken in June/July 2013.
