After being absent for nearly two years, the historic United States Lighthouse Establishment 1901 Fog Bell that was once in use at Maine’s Perkins Island Lighthouse is back in place in front of the Georgetown Central School in Georgetown, Maine.
The bell, which had been removed many years ago from Perkins Island, was recently restored under the guidance of the Georgetown Historical Society. The restoration of the bell and its replacement was accomplished thanks to the donation of funds, supplies, and labor from Fred Kahrl, Dave Knauber, Richard Knauber, Mary McDonald, Bob and Sharon Trabona, John Travis, and Jack Williams, as well as Bill Plummer for storing the bell during its restoration process. (Placement of the restored Perkins Island Fog Bell photos were taken by Robin Doak.)
