Timothy Harrison - In Memoriam

We are deeply saddened to report that on August 19, 2023, the lighthouse community of the world lost one of its greatest lights. Our beloved editor-in-chief, Timothy E. Harrison passed away at the age of 75.
For over 31 years, Tim has been the driving force in preserving our nation’s lighthouse history through each and every one of the almost 300 issues of Lighthouse Digest magazine. His legacy and accomplishments in researching and writing about lighthouses and their keepers are legendary. To say that Tim will be missed by all of us in the lighthouse community and especially at Lighthouse Digest is a monumental understatement.
We were in the midst of the final stages of production of the September/October issue of the magazine at the time of Tim’s death. That issue mailed to subscribers in late September. While we are still mourning the passing of our friend Tim; his wife and business partner, Kathleen Finnegan-Harrison is taking up the reins and positioning the magazine to continue well into the future.
Our November/December issue of Lighthouse Digest will honor Tim’s legacy and continue to share the latest news and tell some great history. The expected mailing date of the issue will be later than usual in early December. We continue to ask for your patience in this regard and also for your prayers and thoughts of comfort for Kathleen and the rest of the Lighthouse Digest family.
After publishing the November/December issue, we will be taking a short pause. Our goal is to continue publishing Lighthouse Digest as we transition the publication to others. Regrettably, we cannot continue to publish without some help. We are going to finish out this year and we are confident that soon, we will be able to transition to new owners and work with them until we pass the flame to a new generation. We need to keep the subscriptions up-to-date to ensure that the magazine has the readership to make it a viable venture for the new owners. So please, continue to keep your subscription renewed. Click to renew or subscribe.
As Tim often said, “We would not be here without all of you who have supported us so enthusiastically for so many years.” We all sincerely thank you for your ongoing help and hope you will find comfort as we do in the knowledge that Tim is finally in a place where he will find out all the answers to those pesky lighthouse “history mystery” questions he has always posed in his Lighthouse Digest articles over the years!
Donations in Tim’s memory may be made to the Lighthouse History Research Institute, P.O. Box 250, East Machias, ME 04630. [Read More]
