Local officials in Racine, Wisconsin say the beam of light from the Wind Point Lighthouse is way too dim and they want the Coast Guard to install a stronger beacon.
In 2007 the Aero Beacon DCB-24R light which had served the lighthouse for 35 years broke and was replaced by a modern Vega VRB-25 light. Since then, many locals, including boaters and even the sheriff’s office says the Vega light is not only too dim, has limited rotation, and flashes incorrectly, all of which are considered a safety hazard. Officials have petitioned the Coast Guard and their Congressman to install a more powerful light.
