Erosion continues to threaten many of our nation’s lighthouses. Now it’s happening at Rhode Island’s Beavertail Lighthouse.

This past January the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced that it was closing the road that loops around 1856 Beavertail Lighthouse which is located in Beavertail State Park in Jamestown, Rhode Island.

It was stated that damage caused by Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and subsequent storm surges have caused washouts along the road and the surrounding pedestrian path.
