This light was made obsolete by the construction of the Seal Island Bridge in 1961. With the help of the Nova Scotia Lighthouse Preservation Society the lighthouse was restored in 2005. However by the end of 2017 the lighthouse again fell into disrepair and is dangerously close to the water’s edge and could topple over. There are local efforts underway to try and save it.
