Notes:
It is believed there were two "fire towers" at Nieuwpoort as early as the year 1284. The "Groote Vierboet," built around 1414, survived until the 19th century and was fitted with a lantern in 1863. It was replaced about 25 years later by a new lighthouse built closer to the sea. Both towers were destroyed during World War I. Temporary beacons were erected until a new lighthouse was built in the mid-1920s; that tower was destroyed during World War II and was eventually replaced by the current tower. Tower Height: 95 Height of Focal Plane: 85 Characteristic and Range: Two red flashes every 14 seconds, range 16 nautical miles. Description of Tower: Conical concrete tower with red and white bands.
