Notes:
The lighthouse site is part of the Sapelo Island Estuarine Reserve. A major restoration of the lighthouse took place in 1997-1998, culminating of the relighting of the lighthouse on September 6, 1998. There are plans to install a road to the lighthouse and adjacent structures. Future projects will include installing exhibits in the fuel storage buildings and reconstructing the dock the lightkeepers used to access the island. In 2011, archaelogists found the foundation of the keeper's house that had been destroyed in an 1898 hurricane.
