In 1971 the lantern at Sambro Island Lighthouse had deteriorated so badly that the Canadian Coast Guard removed its lantern. However, sadly, no real care or upkeep was given to the historic structure. The lighthouse then remained headless for the rest of its life until it was demolished in May of 2016.
