Photo Caption:

Peases Island Lighthouse as it appeared on May 5, 1933. The island is located off the west shore of Nova Scotia, south of Yarmouth in the Tusket Islands. It is here where John (Jean) Leo Surette and his family lived for 30 years. Built in 1879, this structure no longer stands; it was replaced by a new lighthouse in the 1950s that itself was replaced by another structure in 1992. The name of the lighthouse is often referred to under several spellings, such as Pease Island Lighthouse and Pease’s Island Lighthouse. (Canadian Coast Guard photo, courtesy of Chris Mills.)
