The original lighthouse tender Manzanita sank in a collision near Puget Island in 1904. The second Manzanita, built in 1908 which is pictured here, was almost 40 feet longer than the first, and the lead ship in a class of eight vessels of similar construction that included the lighthouse tenders Sequoia and Kukui that also would serve in the Pacific Coast districts.
