James Duncan Wilkins (1850-1915), shown here in an 1894 photograph with a young child, was the keeper at Bodie Island Lighthouse from June 27, 1873 to September 30, 1876. Interestingly, James Wilkins married Martha Caroline Gallop, who was the sister of Bodie Island Lighthouse keeper Peter Gregory Gallop (1843- 1921) and the daughter of Bodie Island Lighthouse keeper Benjamin Gallop (1815-1878.) The search is now underway for their descendants so that they can be invited to the Bodie Island Lighthouse Keepers Descendants Homecoming. (Photograph courtesy Tim Squires.)
