Daniel Phillips, wearing his lighthouse keeper’s jacket, is shown here with his wife Bertha. Daniel Phillips became the acting keeper at Sodus Point Lighthouse on March 3, 1881 and was officially appointed head keeper on June 10, 1882. Phillips was the keeper when the Sodus Point (Sodus Bay) Lighthouse was discontinued in favor of the Sodus Pierhead Lighthouse, and he continued as keeper of the light on the pier until his retirement in 1917.
