In this Coast Guard photo of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, you can see the old fog bell, now on display in front of the Coast Guard station. The Coast Guard crew stationed at Portsmouth Harbor Lifeboat Station had to wind the striking mechanism every couple of hours in foggy weather.
