South Africa's current Cape Point Lighthouse was first lit on March 11, 1919. Being the most powerful lighthouse on the coast of South Africa, it is still a manned station. A fixed red subsidiary light at this station indicates the dangerous areas around the Bellows and Anvil rocks where the liner Lusitania struck on April 18, 1911. Back to the edition of: June 1998
