Observation Platform At New Point Comfort

The New Point Comfort Lighthouse observation platform in Mathews, Virginia was demolished in early February and rebuilt using a grant from NOAA’s Coastal Zone Management with matching funds raised by the Mathews Rotary Club. The work was done by Docks of the Bay, a White Stone, Virginia based marine construction company.

Kudos to the Mathews Rotary Club which began raising funds for the required local match three years ago. For many years the Mathews Rotary Club has worked closely with VDOT and The Nature Conservancy to maintain the area around this popular tourist site. The new observation platform features placards with information about the lighthouse as well as other topics of interest. The deck with an inviting double-sided bench affords a scenic view of the New Point Comfort Lighthouse located on a small island at the convergence of the Chesapeake Bay and Mobjack Bay.
