After spending the winter months breaking ice on the Great Lakes, the crew of the 140-foot Coast Guard Cutter Thunder Bay returned to New England for its summer and fall duties of performing maintenance on lighthouses that are still owned by the Coast Guard.
Ten members of the crew, along with seven personnel from the Boston Aids to Navigation Team, performed
some heavy duty work on Eastern Point Lighthouse in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
Their work included removal of old flaking paint and repairing and painting the tower and replacing siding on the keeper's house that had been damaged from numerous storms. (All photos courtesy of the United States Coast Guard.)
