It seems that everyone who comes to Maine wants what the locals call the Three-Ls: lighthouses, lobsters and L.L. Bean. While most of the tourists will probably visit a few lighthouses and some will make it to shop at L.L. Bean, nearly all of the tourists will definitely eat some lobster. But very people will fully understand what it is like to live the rugged life of a true Down East Maine lobsterman and what it takes to catch the lobsters and get them to market, especially from where the tastiest lobsters come from – in the real Down East part of Maine. This new book by Christina Lemieux Oragano, who is the great granddaughter of the last U.S. Lighthouse Service keeper to serve at Little River Lighthouse in Cutler, Maine, through modern and historical photos, will give you the full history of what it takes to be a lobsterman and bring in the catch. This soft cover book with 159 pages offers a glimpse inside the last real lobstering communities and celebrates it for those lucky enough to live it – the trials, triumphs and even the hardships. For good measure, the book includes some of the superstitions and, of course, a few favorite recipes from Down East, Maine. This book is a great read for anyone who loves Maine and its famous lobsters. It is available from Lighthouse Digest for $16.99.
