This past August 4th the United States Postal Service released a new Forever postage stamp honoring the 225th Anniversary of the United States Coast Guard. The First Day of Issue Ceremony was held in Washington, DC and attended by high ranking government officials, numerous Coast Guard personnel, and postage stamp collectors.

The Coast Guard postage stamp features the Coast Guard’s three-mast training vessel Eagle, which is known as “America’s Tall Ship,” and the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, which is the standard rescue craft of the U.S. Coast Guard. The stamp design came from an oil painting on Masonite by renowned aviation artist William S. Phillips.

This is the third time in United States postage history that the Coast Guard has been honored on a postage stamp. The first time was in 1945 to honor the Coast Guard’s role in World War II, and in 1965 a postage stamp was issued to honor the Coast Guard’s 175th Anniversary.
