Juan de Nova, along with Île Europa, Bassas da India, Les Glorieuses and Tromelin Island, forms the "Iles Eparses" (scattered islands) group of the French overseas territory Terres Australes et Antarctiques Françaises. There is an abandoned weather station on the island.
